One of the most important areas of student participation at Canby Lane and Rowland Schools is the SEE (Students Engaged in Engineering). SEE activities are highly integrated with the normal curriculum activities in Math and Science. They are jointly sponsored by DeKalb County Schools Partners in Education (PIE), together with the Georgia Council of Consulting Engineers and the Canby Lane and Rowland PTAs.
The 1997-98 Canby Lane SEE was composed of 50 6th and 7th Grade students. Student efforts during the year were focussed on a competitive contest associated with jet propulsion models. Engineering expertise and coordination were provided by retired civil engineer Mr. Bobby Green. Construction materials were provided by the Canby Lane PTA. Teacher support was provided by Mr. Kevin Lathan.
The 1997-98 Rowland SEE was actually incorporated into the curriculum and was composed of 125 6th and 7th Grade students from Messrs. Jim Wooten and Tom Murphy's classes. Student efforts were focussed on two competitive contests during the year. These included the construction of balsa model airplanes and bridges. Engineering expertise and coordination were provided by Messrs. Steve Sheets and Mike Bell of W. L. Jordan Co. Construction materials were provided by the Rowland PTA.
The 1994-95 Canby Lane and Rowland SEE activities received national recognition through the National PIE 1994-95 Award For Excellence in Math and Science.

All of us here at Anansi are very excited about our new program to enhance the appeal of Anansi and bring new resources to light for Media Specialists.
The essence of this program is a concentration on Storytelling, that is to say personal contact between the Media Specialist or other teller and an audience. It is the feeling of Anansi Administrators that this personal contact can be an important tool in the Media Specialists arsenal.
The Initiative is under the direction of Anne Wallace and Barbara Hallstrom who can be contacted for questions and comments. Please mail them, they'd love to hear from you.
Besides our Storytelling Links Page, several new resources are now available.

Anansi is broadening its base. From a site focused on Library Media Specialists, Anansi has become a site dedicated to all the practical innovators who are leading education into the information age.
One of our newest initiatives is support for staff development workshops provided by CAENET's Mrs. Barbara Hallstrom and ROWLNET's Mrs. Anne Wallace. They have begun a program of staff development workshops for educators, highlighting the many innovations they have developed over the past dozen years.
