ROWLNET Fables

DeKalb County, Georgia's ROWLNET HomePage administrator Mrs. Anne Wallace recently suggested that the latest ROWLNET Fables would be of special interest to Anansi WebWalkers. They have been a smash hit at ROWLNET.

The two fables were presented as plays at Rowland School by Ms. Mai Linh Westwood's 2nd Grade students on May 21, 1996. The plays themselves are adaptations from Aesop's Fables sponsored by the Houghton Mifflin Literature program. They are entitled "The Lion and the Mouse" as retold by Robert Hoffer and "The Tortoise and the Hare" as retold by Janet Stevens.

Anansi administrators are delighted to include the two Fables here without modification. We invite you to review and judge them rigorously. They are exemplaries of the good use of fine literary resources available from Houghton Mifflin Literature. They are also prime examples of the refreshing approach of 2nd Graders when coached by an enthusiastic and competent teacher. They are also worth reviewing twice, once here and once on ROWLNET.

A special Anansi "Thank You" to Ms. Westwood and her students for their permission to present these plays on Anansi. (For the names of the individual students involved, see each play's List of Characters.)

These fables are featured as part of the Anansi Storytelling Initiative as explained here.
